Boardgames are back! Despite the undeniable growth of the computergames industry, boardgames are being played more than ever before. New games like the Settlers of Catan or Maharadja, older games like Risk or Monopoly, we just can’t get enough of it. Dutch boardgame developer Spel-Maker proves to be right in the middle of this trend by launching a unique method for creating companybased boardgames. With this method, it is now possible to highlight any product in a companybased boardgame. “One of the reasons Spel-Maker entered this market is the lack of qualitygames for marketing purposes.” comments Bas Kesting, founder of Spel-Maker. “We don’t use existing games and change a few questions to make a ‘custommade game’, we use elements of both Game Theory and Economics to create unique companybased games. By using economics it becomes possible to highlight the company’s product logically in a game.” World of Swing After developing games for Philips Lighting, Falcon Life, and Coster Diamonds, a dutch diamond polishing firm, Spel-Maker‘s latest addition is the dancing game World of Swing, created for Swinging World. In this game, up to six players follow the steps of six latin and ballroom dances. Will they win a bronze medal? After the bronze medal, silver and gold medals have to be won. The first player with two gold medals wins the game. The game will be used as a gift and as a relations marketing tool.
